In White Blooms, Monique Paré summons abundance. The white flowers — generous, almost excessive — spill beyond the frame as though the canvas itself cannot contain them. Their open petals, heightened with touches of golden ochre, vibrate with an inner light that only acrylic, handled with this particular mastery, can render.
The vase that holds them is itself a painting within the painting: an imaginary object, encrusted with yellow, orange, green and blue, worked in free and layered strokes that evoke both the craft of mosaic and the impulse of gestural abstraction.
